Glossary of Queer Vernacular

Fall 2025

This project for graduate typography asked me to create a poster that defines my personal design philosophy through 25+ invented terms and definitions, using scale, rhythm, and intense color to challenge traditional design hierarchies and explore how form and language can work together to question what design can be.

I chose to make the “Glossary of Queer Vernacular” which presents a critical reflection on how language itself is a designed tool for survival, identity, and resistance.

By documenting queer vernacular, I'm making visible a linguistic system that was deliberately created to build community, communicate safely, and subvert heteronormative structures.

Each term represents a design element in the ongoing construction of queer space, both as protection from erasure and as celebration of a culture that creates its own meaning outside the mainstream.
